Previous chapter

On March 24, 2001, at Knight Field, Camano Island,Washington, I entered my eighth official ASFA Lure Coursing event, sponsored by W.R.A.G.  I got a "NBQ" which means "Next Best Qualified."  There are 1st - 4th place winners, so NBQ is like 5th place.  You don't get any points, but you do get a ribbon.  I also got a little container of wet dog food.  Boy, was it good!

This was the first race of the year.  There weren't a lot of dogs there.  Only 1 Besenji, 1 Borzoi, 1 Greyhound, 1 Ibizan Hound, 4 Irish Wolfhounds, 3 Salukis and a bunch of Whippets.  The weather had been very nice all week (so I got some good frisbee time in), but was cloudy with a few sun breaks and it actually drizzled a couple of times.

There were 7 field champions running this time, including my sister, Susie.  (There were 6 open class whippets, 1 veteran and 4 singles.)  For my preliminary run, I ran with Reebok and Polo.

That's me in blue and Reebok in pink.

Here's me in the opening stretch taking the lead.

Closing in on the bunny at the end of the race.

Susie had a crick in her neck after the first run.  After massaging it, it seemed better, but her mom didn't want to chance it so she was "scratched" from the rest of the racing.  Too bad.  We actually had the same score after the preliminary race!

In the Final run, I ran with Reebok and Lily.

Once again in blue, coming into the closing stretch.

The judges were Nancy Aiken, from Butte Falls, OR and Greg Ward, from Spokane, WA.
