My Career as a Lure Courser
Part 10 - Ninth Race

by Val the Whippet, F. Ch.

Previous chapter

On April 7, 2001, at Knight Field, Camano Island,Washington, I entered my ninth official ASFA Lure Coursing event, sponsored by W.R.A.G.  I did great, but I didn't win anything.  In fact, I tied with 3 other dogs for last place!  But after the racing was done, there were some dogs that were ready to be certified.  Since I only got to run twice, and I wasn't running tomorrow (the dogs that were running the next day needed to rest up), I volunteered to be a by-dog.  That means I got to run without my racing jacket on.

My buddy, Bailey, got first place in the Open class and became a fellow Field Champion!  (He ran with me when I was certified.)  We were all very excited for him.

There were 9 field champions running.  For my preliminary run, I ran with Lily and Fila.

Closing in on the bunny.

Dad setting the lure (Or, "Watch out! There's a bunny chasing you!")

In the Final run, I ran with Wren and Magic.

There it goes!
